When people think of Glasgow it’s often the city’s shopping or artistic credentials that come to mind, but Scotland’s biggest city is also a veritable treasure trove of parks and gardens.
On the other hand, Bellahouston Park is a small green spot on the south side of Glasgow and is packed with things to see and do. The 175 acre park, visitors will find two separate children’s play areas as well as The House for an Art Lover museum designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, ideal for art lover while sports fans will love the chance to show off their stuff at the Glasgow Ski Centre, which is also located within the grounds.
The most famous Glasgow greenery has to be found in Kelvingrove Park, here visitors will discover a skate park and cycle route as well as the enchanting views of the city offered by a more traditional journey along the walkway. Many people also visit this park as it houses the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, a world-famous gallery that boasts one of Europe’s most extensive civic art collections.
For a splash of greenery in the middle of the city, Glasgow is the perfect choice and many locals and travellers alike enjoy scenic and beautiful picnics and walks amongst the lush foliage of Glasgow’s parks. From the beautiful Botanic Gardens and their fabulous glasshouses to the rose gardens and play areas of Queen’s Park, there’s a stunning Glasgow garden to suit all tastes in the urban jewel.
Not only do Glasgow’s numerous parks provide the perfect place for people to find a touch of nature in the big city, but many also play host to a selection of festivals and special events throughout the year. Family friendly fun is available in the shape of events including attractions such as fairground rides, face painting and music.

However, although Kelvingrove Park is the best known of its kind in the city, there are plenty of other parks within Glasgow’s boundaries and each holds its own unique attractions. For example, the Botanics are renowned for the fascinating Kibble Palace glasshouse while Glasgow Green is well-known as the city’s oldest park, it is thought that it dates back to 1455. Replete with monuments, it nestles in the city centre and provides views of the River Clyde.
